Collits Inn is situated on the western foot of the Blue Mountains, at Hartley Vale, just two hours from Sydney CBD.
French chef, Laurent Deslandes, trained in Paris. His dream was to run an atmospheric country B & B and restaurant in Australia, similar to those in his native country.. He has found this with the historic 1823 Collits Inn.
FOOD AND AWARDS
Laurent serves gourmet country style French food with a light touch. He has won all major food awards since opening in 2002 – including Best European Restaurant in Australia and Best Regional Restaurant in New South Wales.
The Inn has also won the National Trust and Lithgow Council Best Individual Restoration Award
The Inn has two large dining rooms and two small side rooms – seating up to 50. It also has a large, atmospheric, brick-paved barn for functions and can seat up to 100 people at beautiful pine tables made from the old trees which once stood in front of the Inn.
THE SHOP AND THE HISTORY ROOM
Collits’Inn has a small shop selling histories of the Inn and the Collits family and good quality produce and craft. It also has a History Room in the old Post Office on the front verandah. Guests can browse there for hours, looking through old newspapers, historical material and listening to recordings of interviews of those who once lived at, or knew about, the Inn.
The Inn is situated in a beautiful, tranquil valley, surrounded on three sides by the Blue Mountains escarpment. There are many walks along the historic convict roads which once led to the Inn. 500 metres behind the Inn there is a historic rural cemetery containing many members of the Collits’ family as well as Nils Larsen, Henry Lawson’s father and many other early families.
The area is ideal for biking as roads are relatively quiet.. The Inn does not have bikes for insurance reasons unfortunately.
Wildlife, particularly kangaroos, is abundant and can be seen each evening.
The skies are clear and large and ideal for star gazing.
The Inn can sleep 6 in three bedrooms – two with ensuite and one with veranda bathroom. Four more can be accommodated in the former Stables, now a charming self-contained cottage beside the Inn.
