District Dining is the latest venture by Kiwi born chef Warren Turnbull.
“I wanted to create something where I wanted to go and eat all the time. This is sort of a present to myself.”
Opening in October of last year, the Surry Hills bistro was awarded the impressionable score of 15/20 by the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide (Terry Durack) only a month later.
District Dining is a high energy modern bistro that delivers style, quality and good value to our guests. Although the food is recognisably Turnbull’s style, it is vastly different from what is dished up at his two-hatted restaurant, Assiette, around the corner.
Being in the same neighbourhood doesn’t discourage comparison. One is a noted home of post-classical haute cuisine, the kind of place you go for a special occasion or to think about the craft of labour-intensive food and the break from routine it provides. And the other? The kind of place you might want to go every fortnight, relax, eat tasty food and maybe even drink too much, occasionally. You know, hang out. John Lethlean, The Australian
Head Chefs, Warren Turnbull and Grant Astle, dish up a global tasting menu that can either be individually savoured or shared with a group of friends.
Blackboards & mirrors that line the walls are filled with specials and suggestions daily.
Alongside the menu there is an international selection of fine wines, beer & seasonal cocktails carefully put together by Sommelier & Restaurant Manager, Lindsay Carr.
“We are not trying to do anything fancy and we are not doing anything that hasn’t been done before, we are just doing simple, tasty food and great wines, at affordable prices!”
Whether you are having a meal with friends, family or entertaining clients District Dining will deliver professional service within its spacious yet buzzing dining room.
Great staff, genuine hospitality, a sensible little wine list and food that elevates second-string restaurants into a new league of style makes District well and truly worth your money. John Lethlean, The Australian
